Tire width

Postby François » Thu Jan 12, 2017 8:24 am

Hello,

I am trying to make a model of a wheeled vehicle with large wheels, but when I run simulations with different values for the tire width, I don't see any difference in the dynamics and trajectory of the vehicle. Is the tire width used to compute the contact area between the tire and the ground ?

I also noticed the parmeters Lx and Ly in the wizard of tire parameters, they seem to correspond to distances, but I couldn't find any information about them in the manual "um automative" in the section 12.5 "Tyre models", are they used to described the area of contact, and if not what is their purpose ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Best regards,
François

There is no UM model, which takes into account the tire width explicitly.

Lx and Ly are the tire relaxation length parameters, see e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relaxation_length. These parameters are used for approximate modeling transient processes.
